As adults, we think a lot about stress. Modern life is difficult. We worry about paying the bills, doing our jobs well – and we worry about our kids.
That’s part of our jobs as parents, but we don’t want our kids to be negatively affected by stress. It’s not good for them physically or emotionally.
Still, stress is part of life – and some kids are more prone to it than others. In fact, some of us are just naturally more anxious than others. If your child struggles with stress and anxiety, you’ll be happy to know that studying martial arts can help!
Let’s talk about why:
There are a few specific things that happen in a martial arts class that help.
Kids learn mindfulness, which helps them learn to focus more on what they can control and less about things they can’t, leading to less stress.
Martial arts classes provide kids with an intense workout, and exercise releases feel-good hormones called endorphins that counter the body’s stress response.
Our students learn how to take potentially negative emotions like anger and anxiety and channel them into physical movements and study.
Studying martial arts strengthens the mind/body connection and helps kids improve self-control and decrease their tendency to worry.
One of the biggest benefits of learning to cope with stress early is that it decreases the chances that your child will suffer from stress and anxiety later in life. We all need coping mechanisms, and the work kids do in our classes provides them.
Of course, we can’t say that your child will never experience stress if you sign them up to take a class with us. But what we can say is this: they’ll learn the things they can do to manage stress and prevent it from affecting them negatively.
Sincerely,
